October 2025 Scrap Car Price Watch (Hampshire & West Sussex)

Thinking of scrapping or selling a non-runner? Here’s where prices sit now, what moves your quote this month, and the exact DVLA steps (with links) so your paperwork is watertight.

What’s moving your price this month

Metal markets and parts demand are steady after a late-summer dip. Quarter-to-date averages have held around the low-£220s, with August the low-point and a small recovery into September. That means your quote is being nudged more by vehicle weight, spec/condition and distance to the buyer than any big market swings.

Local factors we see across our patch

  • Access & collection route: tight drives, permit streets and multi-storeys add loading time. We bring winch equipment, wheel skates and low-angle beds for EVs/hybrids.
  • Free collection radius: addresses close to our regular runs (Portsmouth & Southsea, Gosport, Fareham, Havant, Chichester, Waterlooville & Southampton) usually price better due to fuel/time savings.
  • Salvage interest: newer non-runners with clean panels, intact cats and full keys can beat scrap weight. See the salvage vs scrap section below.

Salvage vs scrap: when condition beats weight

If your car has repair potential (e.g. light Cat N/S damage, decent mileage, complete exhaust/catalyst), buyers may value it above basic scrap. Popular models in the region (e.g. Focus, Corsa, Fiesta, Astra, Insignia) often attract salvage bids if condition stacks up. Send a few clear photos with your reg and postcode to help us push for the best outcome.

Maximise your quote this week: quick checklist

  • Have 2 keys if available (or disclose if 1/none).
  • Confirm the catalytic converter is intact and not removed.
  • List known issues (gearbox/engine lights) honestly — it avoids price changes on collection.
  • Tyres at safe pressures if it rolls; remove personal items and any trade plates.
  • Share access notes (height limits, permit bays, narrow lanes, dead batteries, seized brakes).
  • Upload 5 photos (front, rear, both sides, dash cluster) with your quote.
  • Book weekday daytime if you can — easier access to yards and traffic routes.

FAQs

Do I need the V5C to scrap my car?
No — but having it speeds up checks. You’ll still need valid photo ID, and the DVLA online step should be completed at handover.
How do I get a Certificate of Destruction?
Only an ATF can issue a CoD after depollution/destruction. When your car is scrapped (not just parted for salvage), we arrange this and send it to you.
Can you collect a non-runner from a tight drive or multi-storey?
Yes. We use winches, wheel skates and low-angle loaders. Tell us about height limits, seized brakes, flat tyres or no-key situations in advance.
DVLA website is down — what should I do?
Finish the handover with us, then complete the DVLA notification as soon as services resume. We’ll email your collection confirmation so you have a paper trail.
