If you no longer want your BYD, start with its exact model and condition. Electric and hybrid enquiries need a review of the vehicle, ownership and access before collection is agreed.
- Individual vehicle assessment
- Local collection enquiries
- Clear vehicle details
Do you need to scrap your BYD, or consider another route?
A damaged or non-running BYD is not automatically an end-of-life vehicle. It may need a repair assessment, an insurance decision or a sale with its condition clearly disclosed. Before deciding on recycling, establish what is known about the problem and whether another party has an interest in the car.
ScrapTrak can review an enquiry using the registration, model, postcode and condition details. The presence of a BYD page is not a promise that every damaged electric vehicle, loose battery or dismantled hybrid can be accepted. Suitability and collection arrangements need assessment before a booking is agreed.
Identify the model and powertrain accurately
Give the full model name and version from your records, including whether the vehicle is fully electric or a plug-in hybrid. Names such as DOLPHIN, ATTO 3, SEAL and SEAL U should not be treated as interchangeable descriptions. If you are unsure of a version, say so rather than selecting a similar model to complete the form.
Include the year, mileage and registration status. Tell us if the vehicle is an import or if a lookup does not match its documents. The official BYD manual library separates models and versions; use the manual appropriate to the actual car, with UK guidance where relevant.
Do not mistake a symptom for a battery diagnosis
A car that will not charge, will not unlock or displays a warning has supplied a symptom, not necessarily a final diagnosis. Explain exactly what you observed and what a repairer has confirmed. Include the wording of a report if one exists and make clear whether investigation remains incomplete.
Do not assign a battery value from an online specification or assume that a warning means the whole battery needs replacement. A vehicle quote is not a diagnostic service. Photographs of ordinary visible damage can help, but do not open equipment, crawl beneath an unstable car or disconnect components to obtain more detail.
Collision, flood or electrical damage needs early disclosure
Tell us at the start about a collision, water exposure, fire or known damage to electrical equipment. Keep any insurer or recovery-operator instructions available. If the vehicle’s condition presents a safety concern, seek appropriate professional assistance; do not attempt to charge, start or move it to see whether the problem has cleared.
High-voltage battery work is not part of preparing a quote enquiry. Do not remove a pack, disconnect high-voltage cables or dismantle components. A damaged car’s handling requirements and collection suitability must be considered individually before arrangements can be made.
BYD’s UK service and maintenance resources link to owner information and emergency-response material. Those are manufacturer resources, not evidence that ScrapTrak is a BYD-approved repairer or accepts every battery condition.
Check repair, warranty and insurance options first
If a repair might be available, obtain a clear scope of work and understand what remains uncertain. Check any warranty position directly with BYD or the relevant provider. The manufacturer’s UK warranty information contains model-dependent terms; eligibility should not be assumed from the car’s age alone.
If an insurer is involved, establish the classification, ownership position and authority to release the vehicle. A quote enquiry does not settle a claim or override an insurer’s instructions. For a financed or leased vehicle, resolve the provider’s requirements before agreeing to sell or dispose of it.
You can still gather information while considering those options. Keep the proposed repair, sale and recycling routes separate so the decision is based on the actual vehicle and permissions, rather than urgency created by storage or a single repair estimate.
Access is part of the assessment
Tell us where the BYD is parked and whether it can be opened normally. Explain what keys or authorised access are available, without sending passwords or personal account details. Mention locked wheels, steering restrictions or any known inability to select a movement mode.
Describe height barriers, basement parking, tight turns, slopes and cars blocking the approach. A vehicle that drove into a space may not be straightforward to remove after damage. Do not force controls or arrange an improvised tow to simplify the description. Our non-runner collection guide explains the practical access information to provide.
Charging cables, accessories and personal information
List the portable cables and accessories you intend to include. Distinguish those from a home wall charger or other property installation. Nothing fixed to the house should be assumed to form part of a vehicle sale, and electrical work is not required to prepare a collection enquiry.
Remove belongings from the vehicle where safe and review saved addresses, paired phones and connected accounts using the manufacturer’s guidance. If the car cannot be accessed normally, explain that restriction and seek the relevant support. Do not share a login as a substitute for an appropriate ownership or account process.
What to send for a BYD enquiry
- Registration, exact model, powertrain and mileage.
- The symptoms, warnings and any professional findings.
- Collision, water or electrical damage already known.
- Completeness, available keys and included accessories.
- Collection postcode, location and access restrictions.
Do not remove parts after an offer without discussing the change. Any proposed figure depends on the vehicle and information assessed. Ask what collection arrangements and included items the agreement covers before accepting it.
DVLA records and complete recycling
Have the V5C available if you have it and keep a written record of the buyer, agreed amount and handover date. Notify DVLA when the car is sold or transferred; the official guide also covers the written route without a log book. Deal separately with insurance and connected accounts.
If complete scrapping is the agreed outcome, the authorised treatment and Certificate of Destruction guidance applies. A sale for repair and resale does not produce the same destruction certificate. Confirm the proposed route rather than assuming every vehicle collected is destroyed.
BYD questions answered
Can I enquire before diagnosis is complete?
Yes. State what is known and what remains uncertain. Do not guess a battery fault to complete the enquiry.
Does this mean every damaged BYD is accepted?
No. Condition, ownership, handling and collection suitability must be assessed first.
