Scrap My Polestar

A Polestar enquiry should cover the physical vehicle and its ownership arrangements. Tell us the model, condition and location so the next step can be assessed.

  • Individual vehicle assessment
  • Local collection enquiries
  • Clear vehicle details

Assess the car before choosing a disposal route

If a Polestar is damaged, will not drive or is no longer wanted, start by finding out which decisions remain open. It may be awaiting diagnosis, an insurance response or a repair quotation. A search for scrap value cannot establish the condition of the battery or determine whether repair and resale are practical.

ScrapTrak can review an enquiry with the registration, exact model, postcode and known condition. Acceptance and collection depend on that assessment. We do not promise to collect every damaged electrified vehicle, loose battery or partially dismantled car simply because its make appears in our guide.

Polestar 1, 2, 3 and 4 are not interchangeable

Use the full model and powertrain description from your records, and include the year and mileage where known. The number in the model name is not enough to choose recovery instructions or account-transfer steps. Do not assume guidance for a Polestar 2 applies unchanged to a Polestar 1 or a later model.

Explain any modifications, missing components or import status. If a vehicle lookup is incomplete, flag the mismatch rather than choosing a different car. Photos and accurate records help identify what is being assessed, but do not include passwords or unnecessary personal account information.

Fault descriptions that help an assessment

Tell us what happened, what the display says and whether a professional has examined the car. A charging problem, a vehicle that will not unlock and a confirmed component failure are different descriptions. Use the wording of a workshop report and make clear where the cause is still uncertain.

If there has been a collision, flood, fire or known damage involving electrical equipment, disclose it at the outset. Keep recovery or insurer instructions available. Do not attempt to charge, move or repeatedly restart a damaged car just to see whether its condition has changed.

High-voltage equipment is not something to dismantle for a quote. Do not remove a battery or disconnect components. Collection suitability must take the actual condition into account, including any restrictions identified by a qualified repairer or recovery operator.

Compare repair and sale options with clear ownership

Ask a repairer to explain what is confirmed, what work is proposed and what could change the estimate. Check any relevant warranty or insurance position with the provider before committing to disposal. An enquiry can help you understand an option, but it does not decide an insurance settlement or release a lender’s interest.

If the car is financed, leased, owned by a business or held at a compound, establish who can authorise sale and release. Having an app connection or a key does not resolve those questions. Explain any outstanding decision before agreeing a collection date.

A working advertised example is not a valuation of a damaged Polestar. Condition, completeness, available records and the proposed route all affect the assessment. Ask what an offer includes, what it relies on and what could lead to reassessment.

Plan access without experimenting with the car

Tell us what keys are available and whether doors can be opened normally. Explain known restrictions involving wheels, steering, brakes or movement. If the vehicle’s present ability to roll is unknown, say so rather than forcing a control or trying to pull it with another vehicle.

Describe the parking area and approach: height barriers, underground access, tight bends, steep drives and anything blocking the exit. A safely taken photograph can help explain the route. A car that entered a garage under its own power may require different arrangements after a fault.

Use the correct model’s owner guidance and leave recovery planning to the people assessing the job. Our non-runner collection page explains the information that helps establish access and suitability before anyone travels.

Polestar account and personal-data handover

Connected services deserve their own checklist. Polestar’s Polestar 2 change-of-ownership guidance covers disconnecting the app, resetting user data and removing the car from the owner’s Polestar ID. Follow the instructions for your exact model and year rather than copying an unrelated sequence.

For example, the Polestar 3 ownership instructions describe a different transfer workflow. Coordinate the correct process with the agreed handover. If the screen or account cannot be accessed, contact Polestar support instead of sharing your login.

Account removal and legal vehicle notification are separate tasks. An app transfer does not replace the sale record, and giving someone the physical keys does not necessarily remove personal information. Review parking, charging and toll accounts separately through their respective providers.

Accessories and documents to prepare

List available keys, charging cables and other items included with the car. A home charging installation is not automatically part of the vehicle sale. Do not disconnect installed equipment or undertake electrical work to prepare it.

Remove personal belongings where safe and keep the V5C, useful repair reports and agreed vehicle records ready. If the car cannot be opened, explain that before collection rather than promising it will be cleared. Make a record of anything included that is stored separately.

DVLA notification and the proposed final route

Tell DVLA when the vehicle is sold or transferred, retaining the buyer’s details, date and payment record. The official page explains the written route if there is no log book. Notify your insurer separately and keep the acknowledgement with your handover records.

If the car is completely scrapped, GOV.UK explains authorised treatment and Certificates of Destruction. The certificate is not issued for a repair-and-resale outcome. Ask which route is proposed rather than assuming the word “collection” means complete destruction.

Polestar enquiry questions

Can a car without a working screen be assessed?

You can make an enquiry, but explain the access and display problem clearly. Further information and collection suitability need consideration before anything is agreed.

Should I send my Polestar login?

No. Follow the manufacturer’s ownership process and use its support if access is difficult. An enquiry should not require your account password.

Can you quote from battery size alone?

No. A battery specification does not establish its condition or the value and suitability of the whole vehicle. Give the actual condition and any professional findings.
