A considered decision for an unwanted Porsche
A Porsche left unused can present several questions at once: whether a repair is worthwhile, whether it has specialist interest and how to move it without causing further damage. The first step is to gather the facts. A non-running Boxster, an accident-damaged Cayenne and a stored older 911 should not be treated as interchangeable cars.
You can contact ScrapTrak before deciding on a disposal route. Give us the registration, model, location and a clear description. We will need to assess the information and collection suitability before agreeing a purchase. This page does not promise a particular valuation or assume that every Porsche should be broken or recycled.
Consider specialist interest before an irreversible decision
For an older, unusual or well-documented car, consider whether a specialist assessment would help you decide. Originality, specification and history can matter to a potential buyer, but they do not guarantee a premium. A complete car with records may warrant a different conversation from an incomplete restoration project with substantial deterioration.
If you want to compare offers, give each prospective buyer the same description. Explain whether you are seeking a sale as a whole vehicle or disposal for recycling. Ask what the offer assumes and what could change it. The highest headline figure is less useful if the buyer has misunderstood the model, damage or parts included.
911, Boxster and Cayman: tell us the exact version
Include the model year and derivative where known, body style, transmission and any modifications. Photographs should show the whole car as well as damage. Service invoices, inspection findings and an accurate account of when it last ran help make the description meaningful. Avoid using an enthusiast label or trim name unless you can support it.
For a convertible, explain whether the roof is closed and whether the interior has been exposed to weather. If a vehicle has been dismantled, list the main components removed and say where they are stored. A box of parts in a separate garage is not necessarily included in a collection unless that has been agreed.
Cayenne, Macan and Panamera: access and specification
A larger Porsche may be parked in a location that was easy to enter when it was running but difficult to leave after a fault. Tell us about height restrictions, ramps, tight turns and the space around the car. Mention any known suspension, wheel, steering or brake problem without attempting to release or adjust anything to help loading.
The full powertrain description matters. Tell us if the vehicle is petrol, diesel, a plug-in hybrid or fully electric. A model name alone is not enough to choose recovery arrangements. Porsche provides guidance on finding the appropriate owner’s manual; the exact model and year should guide any professional recovery advice.
Taycan and electrified Porsche enquiries
For an electric or hybrid Porsche, disclose known battery warnings, collision damage and water exposure at the start. A failed charging attempt or a blank display does not, on its own, prove the condition of the traction battery. Use the wording of any professional report and make clear what has not yet been diagnosed.
Do not dismantle, disconnect or try to repair high-voltage equipment for an enquiry. Damaged electrified vehicles need an assessment of suitability before any collection can be agreed. We do not promise acceptance of every battery condition, loose battery or partially dismantled electric vehicle.
Comparing a repair estimate with selling as it stands
Ask the workshop to separate confirmed work from possible additional costs. Establish whether the car is assembled, whether it can be safely moved and whether diagnosis has reached a conclusion. You can then compare keeping the car, selling it with disclosed faults and recycling if it has reached the end of useful life.
Money already spent is part of your ownership history, but it does not automatically add the same amount to a new offer. Equally, an expensive quotation from one workshop is not proof that every buyer would pursue the same repair. Describe the evidence and let each option be assessed on its merits.
Plan transport before moving a stored car
Low clearance, an awkward approach or a car resting on flat tyres should be mentioned before booking. Explain whether all wheels are fitted, keys are available and any movement is known to be restricted. Do not start a long-stored engine or drag the vehicle simply to establish whether it can move.
If the car is in a storage unit or workshop, identify the person authorised to release it. Confirm opening times and arrangements for keys and access. Our non-runner collection information explains why an accurate access description helps avoid problems on the day.
Ownership, registration and personal records
Check that you have authority to sell and settle any question about finance, joint ownership or an insurance claim with the relevant parties. Keep the V5C, available keys and useful service records together. Personal documents should be removed from the car, and connected services should be dealt with using Porsche’s guidance.
If you want to retain a personalised registration, do that before sale or scrapping. DVLA’s retention guidance explains eligibility and the documents needed; do not assume a non-running car automatically qualifies. Tell us if a number transfer is still being arranged.
After handover, notify DVLA of the sale or transfer and retain confirmation. For complete scrapping, use the official ATF and Certificate of Destruction guidance. A repair-and-resale route does not produce the same destruction certificate.
Questions before requesting a Porsche quote
Is an older Porsche automatically worth restoring?
No. Specification, condition, completeness and the cost of work all matter. A specialist opinion may help where there is uncertainty, but no badge makes restoration sensible in every case.
Can I ask about a project car with parts removed?
Yes. List what is missing, what remains with it and whether it is on wheels. Purchase and collection suitability must be confirmed from those details.
Do I need to make it drive before collection?
No promise to drive it is needed for an enquiry. Explain the condition honestly and leave movement and loading plans to the people assessing the job.
