A Hyundai with a fault still needs a proper assessment. Tell ScrapTrak about the car, the diagnosis you have and its collection location so you can compare your next steps.
- Individual vehicle assessment
- Local collection enquiries
- Clear vehicle details
Start with the Hyundai you have today
Perhaps it has been your daily car for years and now needs work you do not want to organise. Perhaps it is damaged, has an expired MOT or is simply surplus to requirements. The useful question is what it can reasonably be used for now, not whether the brand has a particular reputation.
ScrapTrak considers unwanted vehicles, non-runners and damaged cars. Use our Hyundai quote enquiry to provide the registration, postcode and condition. If you are deciding between repair and disposal, you can seek an assessment before committing to more spending.
i10, i20 and i30: small details make a useful enquiry
For an i10 or i20, tell us why you are moving it on. An MOT repair list, an engine fault and a car that has merely been replaced are different situations. Include mileage and known faults, even when the exterior looks tidy.
For an i30, describe the body style and specification you can confirm. Say whether it is a hatchback or estate and whether modifications affect its condition or loading. Do not assume that an advertised price for a working example reflects the value of your car with a fault.
Photographs of the whole vehicle are useful alongside close-ups. A clean picture of one corner cannot show whether parts are missing or whether the car is accessible. A short factual description and several clear images are usually better than a long list of guesses.
Crossovers, family vehicles and electrified models
ix35, Tucson and Santa Fe
Give the exact model, year and drivetrain where known. With a larger Hyundai, explain the parking position and room available around it. Tell us about damaged wheels, flat tyres or a low entrance. A recovery plan needs both vehicle details and access details.
Kona and IONIQ vehicles
Make the power system clear. Familiar model names can cover different versions, so state whether yours is petrol, diesel, hybrid, plug-in hybrid or electric where applicable. The badge alone is not enough to select recovery instructions or assess a charging complaint.
For an electric or hybrid enquiry, share battery warnings, collision damage and any professional findings. Collection suitability and safe handling must be checked before booking. Do not attempt high-voltage repairs or remove a traction battery to prepare the vehicle for sale.
Check the diagnosis before writing the car off in your mind
A dashboard warning is a reason to investigate, not a complete diagnosis. If a garage has confirmed the fault, provide its wording. If you only know that the car will not start, explain what was happening beforehand and what has been checked.
Ask a repairer whether an estimate covers the complete job or an initial investigation. Consider the rest of the Hyundai too: other work due, body damage and whether it still suits your needs. The cost of one part is not the same as the total cost of returning the car to use.
If you believe existing manufacturer cover or a safety recall may be relevant, check with Hyundai before making an irreversible disposal decision. The official vehicle recall service is a useful starting point for recall information. Do not assume that another owner’s experience applies to your registration.
Repair potential, salvage and scrap value
A Hyundai that is still useful after a proportionate repair may be worth keeping. Selling it as it stands can be a practical alternative if you no longer want to arrange the work. Where repair or reusable parts are viable, the vehicle may be assessed as salvage; where it has reached the end of practical use, recycling may be appropriate.
Our salvage guide explains that middle ground. Requesting a scrap quote should not stop you telling us that the vehicle runs well. We need the actual condition to consider the right route.
Value depends on the individual car. Registration, age, mileage, completeness, faults and collection details all matter. For a recycled vehicle, material values are relevant; for a repairable vehicle, the work and remaining condition also affect the assessment. Read our value guide for more detail.
The information to send before collection is arranged
- Registration and the postcode where the Hyundai is actually parked.
- Whether it starts, drives, rolls and steers.
- Any fault diagnosis, damage or missing components.
- Key availability and whether normal access works.
- Photographs showing the vehicle and the approach.
Tell us if a repairer has dismantled it or holds removed parts. Explain whether wheels are fitted and the car is ready to leave. If you intend to keep accessories, discuss what is included before accepting an offer rather than changing the vehicle afterwards.
A non-runner needs a loading plan, not an improvised tow
A flat battery can affect access and controls as well as starting. Mention locked steering, a parking brake that will not release or a transmission stuck in park. Do not force anything to demonstrate that the car moves.
Hyundai’s official owner manuals are organised by model and generation. Follow guidance for the correct vehicle and leave unfamiliar recovery procedures to competent professionals.
For the location, include low ceilings, narrow entrances, slopes and blocked exits. If it is at a garage or workplace, arrange release with the person controlling access. Wait for the confirmed booking before coordinating time off or someone to meet the driver.
Prepare for a clear handover
Keep the V5C and keys ready where available. Tell us early if documents are missing or you are acting for the owner. Clear personal possessions from the cabin and boot, including under-floor compartments and storage pockets.
Where accessible, remove saved personal destinations and paired devices using the owner instructions. Keep your collection record and ensure DVLA is notified when you no longer own the Hyundai. The official notification guidance includes what to do without a V5C.
Hyundai questions
Can I request a quote for an i10 with no MOT?
Yes. Give its current condition and test status. A missing MOT is part of the description, rather than a complete statement of value.
Will you assess a hybrid that does not start?
Send the exact model and symptoms, plus any battery or accident information. Suitability and handling require individual assessment before collection is agreed.
Should I replace parts before asking for an offer?
Get an assessment first if the only reason for spending money is to sell the car. If you may keep it, a proper diagnosis helps compare the alternatives.
