How our Scrap My Van service works
1) Share van details
VRM, postcode, make/model/engine, SWB/LWB/Luton/crew, starts or not, catalyst/DPF and wheels present, tyres inflated, photos if you can.
2) Receive a fair, firm offer
We price weight/body type, completeness (catalyst/DPF/alloys/tyres), condition & access, and efficient local routing. Salvageable vans may command more.
3) Book free collection
Home, depot, yard or loading bay — we fit around business hours and access windows. We plan the right kit for height limits and tight turns.
4) Quick verification
On arrival we match the van to the quote, confirm ID and agree the loading plan. If brakes are locked or steering is stuck, we bring the right equipment.
5) Instant bank transfer
Payment by Faster Payments at the kerbside — funds land before the truck leaves. No cash handling.
6) DVLA & paperwork
We support the DVLA steps, and where your van is destroyed at an ATF, a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) is issued for your records.
What affects scrap van prices?
Weight & body type
Scrap value tracks recoverable material, so vans usually pay more than equivalent cars. LWB and Luton bodies typically outscore small city vans. Crew vans and campers can vary depending on fit-outs and access.
Completeness
Catalytic converter/DPF present, wheels/tyres fitted and batteries intact help your offer. Significant stripping (missing DPF, wheels, interior) can reduce it — tell us plainly so we price fairly.
Condition & access
Non-runners are fine. Locked brakes, seized bearings or no keys are manageable; they just require planning and sometimes extra time on site. Height barriers, low beams, bollards or one-way estates influence routing and loading.
Markets & timing
Ferrous markets move through the year; heavier vans track those shifts more. If you’re flexible, ask which direction the index is trending and we’ll give you an honest view.
Illustrative guide by weight/class (not an offer)
| Typical class | Examples | Notes that can improve offer |
|---|---|---|
| Small van / car-derived (CDV) | Berlingo/Partner/Combo, Fiesta/Focus van | Complete exhaust (cat/DPF), four good tyres, easy driveway access |
| Panel van SWB | Transit Custom SWB, Vivaro/Trafic, Transporter | Alloys present, catalyst/DPF intact, starts or easy winch from bay |
| Panel van LWB / H1–H3 | Transit LWB, Sprinter/Crafter, Master/Boxer | Access clearance (height/turning), photos of loading area, tyres holding air |
| Luton / box / dropside / tipper | Transit Luton, Sprinter box, crew cab tippers | Tail-lift condition noted, alloy/steel bed intact, honest weight/fit-out details |
Real quotes depend on your van’s specifics, market levels and access. Send photos to help us firm the best result.
Business & fleet disposals — simple and compliant
SMEs & sole traders
Changing over a work van or clearing a non-runner from a yard? We plan around your trading hours and provide clear documentation. If you need multiple vans collected, we can batch them on the same run where possible.
Site access & loading bays
Share bay time limits, marshals’ requirements and H&S notes. We provide the right wheelbase/clearance and work safely around live sites.
Paperwork in order
We support the DVLA notification every time and arrange a Certificate of Destruction where applicable via our ATF partners. If your van is “too good to scrap”, we’ll advise salvage options transparently.
Fast payment
We pay by Faster Payments at the kerbside once verified — funds usually show within minutes. We can send remittance details to your accounts inbox on request.
Recent van collections (what they looked like in practice)
Transit Custom SWB — non-runner (Portsmouth)
Starter fault; parked nose-in with 2.0 m barrier. We routed a low-clearance vehicle, winched carefully, verified ID and paid instantly. DVLA steps completed before departure.
Vivaro LWB with alloys — MOT failure (Worthing)
Emissions fail; alloys and catalyst intact. Easy yard access; photos in advance helped us firm a strong offer. Payment and paperwork done curbside.
Transit Luton — tail-lift intact (Basingstoke)
High-mileage box van, stored in a business park with timed loading bay. We collected within the window, issued Faster Payments, and a CoD was provided later via ATF.
