Time to move your Ford on?
Maybe your Fiesta has failed its MOT, the Focus is sitting outside a garage with a repair estimate, or an older Mondeo is taking up space you need back. The useful question is what makes sense for this particular car now. You do not have to diagnose it yourself or decide whether it is scrap before contacting ScrapTrak.
We buy unwanted cars and consider damaged vehicles and non-runners. Start with an honest description of the problem and what is still working. A running car with a short MOT needs a different assessment from one with a dismantled engine or wheels that will not turn. Our Ford quote enquiry gives us a starting point; the vehicle details and collection arrangements need confirming before a booking is agreed.
Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo and other Ford models
Fiesta and Ka: small cars, individual decisions
With a Fiesta or Ka, it can be tempting to compare the repair bill with what you originally paid. A more useful comparison is the cost of putting it back into a condition you are happy to use, against its realistic value afterwards. Include any other work already due. A single repair may be reasonable; several unresolved problems can change the decision.
Tell us the year, mileage, engine and transmission if you know them. Photographs of the whole car are useful alongside close-ups of damage. Do not assume a small car has no value, and do not rely on an advertised price for a tidy running example as the value of a non-runner.
Focus and Mondeo: condition matters beyond the badge
A Focus hatchback, Focus estate and Mondeo estate are not interchangeable descriptions. Body style, specification, service records and the actual fault help explain what you have. If the car is at a workshop, ask for the diagnosis in writing and confirm whether it has been put back together. Parts left in the boot are worth mentioning before collection.
C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy and Ford SUVs
For a family car, check the cabin thoroughly before handover. Under-seat storage, rear passenger spaces and boot compartments can hide personal belongings. For a Kuga or another larger Ford, describe the parking position and any tight approach. The model name alone does not tell us whether the car has a particular transmission, drivetrain or electrified power system.
If you are enquiring about a Ford van rather than a passenger car, say so at the start. Give the exact model and body type, and explain whether it is empty. A separate description avoids treating a working van, a converted vehicle and a family car as the same collection job.
Repair, sell as it stands, or scrap?
Before you spend more money, gather what is known. A garage estimate should explain the proposed work and whether further diagnosis could change the cost. An MOT result helps identify test failures, but it does not establish every future repair. GOV.UK explains that the test does not cover the condition of the engine, clutch or gearbox. You can review the recorded test results using the official MOT history service.
If your Ford is still usable and in reasonable condition, selling it as a vehicle may make more sense than recycling it. If it has a major fault, there may still be repair or parts potential. Where it has reached the end of its useful life, scrapping is the appropriate route. Our salvage guide explains why a damaged car and an end-of-life car are not automatically the same thing.
There is no need to pay for cosmetic work just to request an offer. Send a clear description first. Equally, if a diagnosis is uncertain and a modest repair could keep the car useful, take time to understand that option before committing to disposal.
What affects a Ford scrap or salvage quote?
There is no reliable single price for every Fiesta or Focus. The offer depends on the actual vehicle and the available route for it. Useful details include:
- The registration, model, age, engine and fuel type.
- Whether it starts, runs and moves, and the fault you have been told about.
- Accident damage, missing components and whether the car is complete.
- Mileage and supporting service or repair information where available.
- The collection postcode and whether it rolls, steers and can be reached safely.
Scrap value and repair potential are different assessments. For a vehicle being recycled, material values and completeness matter; for a repairable vehicle, the cost and practicality of returning it to use also matter. Tell us about changes after quoting, including parts removed or new damage, so the offer can be checked before anyone travels.
Collecting a Ford that will not drive
The words “it does not start” are only part of the collection picture. We also need to know whether the keys are available, the steering is locked, the tyres are inflated and the brakes are holding the car. A Ford with a gearbox problem may start normally but be unable to move. Describe what happens rather than testing it repeatedly to produce a diagnosis.
A photograph showing the approach to the car often helps more than a close-up of the bonnet. Mention a slope, underground parking, height barrier, narrow lane, locked gate or another car blocking the exit. If a workshop has the keys, agree who will release the vehicle and whether any outstanding workshop arrangements need settling.
Do not force a selector, release a parking brake on a slope or arrange an improvised tow to make the collection look easier. Ford provides owner manuals by model and year; recovery instructions must match the actual vehicle. Tell us if it is a hybrid or electric Ford, particularly after collision damage, so suitability can be assessed before booking.
Paperwork and the final handover
Keep the V5C, keys and any useful records ready. If the log book is missing, mention it before the appointment so the required identity, ownership and notification arrangements can be explained. Remove personal belongings, parking permits and stored personal information where you can do so safely. If a private registration is staying with you, complete the DVLA retention process before disposal.
Make sure DVLA is told when the vehicle leaves your ownership and retain your handover record. The official DVLA service explains notification, including what to do without a V5C. A Certificate of Destruction relates to a car being completely scrapped; it is not a document issued for every repairable vehicle sale.
Ford collection questions
Can I request a quote if the MOT has expired?
Yes. Tell us the MOT status and current condition. Arrange a suitable collection rather than assuming you can drive it to a buyer. The test expiry is one part of the assessment, not a reason to leave out other known faults.
Is a Ford with a gearbox fault automatically scrap?
No. The model, overall condition and nature of the fault affect whether repair or salvage remains practical. A written diagnosis is helpful, but we can start an enquiry with the information you have.
Should I remove valuable parts first?
Ask before taking anything off. Removing components can change the value and make loading harder. If parts have already been removed, list them accurately rather than describing the car as complete.
Can you collect from my garage rather than home?
Tell us the garage address, contact arrangements and how the Ford is parked. Collection needs to be agreed with the person who controls access, and the car must be ready to release at the confirmed time.
