A useful Honda assessment starts with honest detail

You might be selling after a breakdown, an MOT failure or a change in your circumstances. Perhaps the car still runs well but you no longer need it. Start with that explanation. A vehicle does not become scrap simply because its owner has decided to move on.

Use our Honda quote enquiry to send the registration, collection postcode and condition. Include the faults you know about and distinguish a garage diagnosis from your own observations. If the problem remains uncertain, that is useful information too.

Jazz: check more than the repair estimate

For a Jazz, think about how the vehicle would fit your needs after the proposed work. A manageable repair may make sense if the rest of the car is useful. Several separate jobs, body damage or a car you already plan to replace can change that calculation.

Give the year, mileage, fuel type and transmission where known. Say whether it starts, drives and can be moved safely. Before handover, check the rear seating area and storage spaces for belongings rather than only emptying the glovebox and boot.

Civic and Accord: describe the exact version

The Civic name covers different generations and body styles. Tell us the specification you can confirm, including any modifications. A standard car, a modified example and a car partway through a repair need different descriptions even if they share a registration year.

For an Accord or an estate version, photograph the interior and load area as well as the exterior. If the car has been used to carry equipment, explain any damage or missing trim that affects its current condition. Service history can help describe a repairable car, but it should not hide a current fault.

If you have a performance model, do not assume either that the badge guarantees a high offer or that a fault makes it worthless. The actual specification, condition, completeness and possible route need consideration together.

CR-V, HR-V and electrified Hondas

With a CR-V or HR-V, include the exact model, power system and drivetrain where known. Explain access around the parking space, especially a narrow entrance, low roof or limited room for a recovery vehicle.

Make clear when the Honda is a hybrid or electric model. Describe warning messages, charging issues and any battery or collision damage. Suitability and handling require individual assessment before collection is agreed; do not dismantle high-voltage components or apply a petrol-car recovery procedure by assumption.

A car that powers up is not necessarily ready to drive. Explain what actually happens when you try its normal controls, without repeating tests that a professional has advised against.

Repair, sell with the fault, or recycle?

Ask a repairer what the estimate includes. Is the diagnosis complete, or could investigation identify additional work? Are there other items already due? Comparing the full proposal is more useful than comparing one replacement part with the price you paid for the car.

If you want to keep the Honda, a proportionate repair may be worthwhile. If you no longer want the responsibility of fixing it, an as-is offer can help you decide. A vehicle with repair or reusable-parts potential may be assessed as salvage. Complete recycling may be appropriate when useful life has ended.

Our salvage information explains that distinction. You do not have to choose the final route before starting an enquiry. The aim is to assess your car accurately, including the good points and the problems.

What affects the value of a Honda?

Condition is more informative than a blanket price for a model. Two Civics of a similar age may differ in damage, mileage, missing parts and repair potential. A recycled car and a car suitable for repair are not valued in exactly the same way.

  • Provide the registration, mileage and known specification.
  • Explain faults, damage and any professional diagnosis.
  • List missing or removed components.
  • Say whether it starts, moves, rolls and steers.
  • Confirm keys, collection postcode and access restrictions.

Do not take parts off just to sell them separately without checking the effect on the offer. Removing wheels or other major items can make collection harder. If parts have already been removed, say what remains and whether loose components are included.

Our value guide explains why an online guide figure is different from a confirmed offer. Update the enquiry if the Honda’s condition or location changes.

A collection plan for a car that cannot drive

Tell us about a flat battery, steering lock, parking brake that will not release or wheels that will not turn. These details affect loading even when the engine fault seems like the main problem. A non-runner parked on a level open drive is different from one behind a low barrier or on a steep slope.

Honda publishes official owner manuals for its models. Use instructions for the right vehicle and leave unfamiliar recovery procedures to competent professionals. Do not force a selector or arrange an improvised tow to make the car easier to reach.

For a garage collection, agree who will release the car, where the keys are and whether it is assembled. Give the real collection address and a contact available at the agreed time. Wait for booking confirmation before coordinating your own plans.

Documents and personal belongings

Have the V5C and keys ready if available, and explain missing documents before the appointment. Remove belongings and personal paperwork, including parking tags and storage cards. Where the systems work, follow the manufacturer guidance to clear saved personal information.

Keep the handover record and ensure DVLA is notified when you no longer own the Honda. The official DVLA service explains the process and the alternative when the V5C is missing. A private registration you intend to keep should be dealt with before disposal.

Honda questions

Can I enquire about a modified Civic?

Yes. Explain the modifications accurately and provide photographs. They may affect the assessment or loading, so the description should reflect the actual vehicle.

What if the Honda starts but will not move?

Say that clearly and include any diagnosis. We need to know whether it can roll and steer for loading, not simply whether the engine runs.

Does high mileage make the car scrap?

No. Mileage is one factor alongside condition, completeness and possible repair. Give an accurate figure rather than assuming it settles the decision.

Can I include service records with the enquiry?

Yes. Relevant records can help explain the Honda’s history and recent work. Keep personal information that is unrelated to the vehicle private, and describe any faults that developed after the last service.
