A Peugeot repair decision without the guesswork
A warning light, failed MOT and breakdown are three different reasons to consider selling a car. They do not all mean the same thing, and they do not establish its value on their own. Tell us why you are thinking of moving your Peugeot on and whether the cause has been diagnosed.
Maybe you want the drive clear before another car arrives. Maybe you would rather sell the vehicle as it stands than organise more work. Start with a Peugeot quote enquiry. The registration, collection postcode and accurate condition details give us something useful to assess.
From city cars to family estates and SUVs
107, 108, 206, 207 and 208
For a smaller Peugeot, compare the total work needed with what you want from the car. A small repair on an otherwise useful vehicle may be worthwhile; several separate jobs may change the decision. Keep the MOT result and any workshop estimate available, and tell us about faults that are not on the test sheet.
Provide the correct year and power system. The same model name can cover different versions, so do not assume the car’s size or appearance tells us whether it is petrol, diesel, hybrid or electric.
307, 308, 407 and 508
Include whether the car is a hatchback, saloon or estate. The whole condition matters: bodywork, cabin, mileage, missing components and how it runs. If it starts but loses power or will not select a gear, explain that distinction rather than simply marking it as running.
2008, 3008 and 5008
Family vehicles can carry years of belongings in their storage areas. Check beneath seats, under the boot floor and in door pockets before collection. If seats or original equipment have been removed, mention that when describing the car. Tell us about any tight entrance or restricted parking space that a recovery vehicle must reach.
Convertibles and electric models
For a CC model, explain the roof’s position and whether it closes. Do not attempt a roof repair just to prepare the car for a quote. For an electric or hybrid Peugeot, disclose the exact version and any charging, battery or collision concerns. Suitability and safe handling need individual confirmation before a booking.
Separate the symptoms from the diagnosis
An engine warning message tells you to investigate; it does not always identify the failed part. A fault code also needs interpreting in context. If a garage has diagnosed the problem, share its explanation. If you only know that the car will not start or behaves differently when warm, say exactly that.
This helps avoid pricing the car against an assumed fault that turns out to be different. It also makes collection planning clearer. A car that starts but has no drive may need different preparation from one that will not start but rolls freely.
If you are still considering repair, ask what the estimate covers, whether the diagnosis is complete and what additional work might be needed. Check any relevant manufacturer support with Peugeot directly rather than assuming a general online discussion applies to your registration.
Repair, salvage or complete scrapping?
These are separate routes. Keeping the car after repair can be sensible if it meets your needs and the work is proportionate. Selling it as it stands can remove the need to manage repairs yourself. Where repair or parts use remains practical, the car may have salvage potential; when it has reached the end of useful life, recycling is appropriate.
Read our salvage guide if you are unsure about the difference. You do not need to describe a running Peugeot as scrap just because you are searching for a buyer. Equally, do not leave out known damage to make the car sound more attractive.
The official scrapping guide explains the authorised treatment facility route for end-of-life vehicles. Ask what has been agreed for your car and keep the relevant handover records.
What helps determine the offer?
The model and registration are the starting point. An assessment also needs mileage, condition, completeness and collection information. Material values matter when recycling; repair costs and the rest of the car matter when considering salvage. There is no dependable single price for every Peugeot 208 or 308.
- Describe the main fault and any other known problems.
- List parts removed, damaged or stored separately.
- Say whether it starts, drives, rolls and steers.
- Confirm key availability and the actual collection postcode.
- Provide safe photographs of the whole car and its parking position.
If you plan to keep accessories or remove parts, discuss that first. A quote for a complete vehicle should not be compared with the value of the same car after components have been taken away. See our value guide for further explanation.
Make the collection location clear
Tell us about a narrow drive, low barrier, slope or shared entrance. A car parked at the rear of a property needs a description of the route out, not just the street name. Mention seized brakes, flat tyres, locked steering and a selector that cannot be moved.
Peugeot’s official owner resources provide access to vehicle documentation. Follow guidance matched to the car and leave unfamiliar recovery procedures to competent professionals. Do not force a control or improvise a tow to make the collection appear simpler.
If a garage has the Peugeot, confirm who has the keys, whether it is assembled and who can authorise release. Make sure the address and contact are correct before the collection is booked.
Before the driver arrives
Gather the keys, V5C if available and any requested identification or ownership information. Explain a missing log book early. Remove possessions, parking permits and personal documents. Where accessible, clear personal information from connected and multimedia systems using the correct instructions.
Ensure DVLA is told when you no longer own the car. If you want to keep a private number, complete retention before disposal. A Certificate of Destruction applies to complete scrapping, rather than every vehicle sold with a fault; clarify the route and retain the collection confirmation.
Peugeot questions
Can you quote before I pay for another diagnostic visit?
Yes. Tell us what is known and what remains uncertain. If further information emerges, update the enquiry before an offer and collection are confirmed.
Does an MOT failure mean my Peugeot is finished?
No. Consider the required repairs alongside the rest of its condition and your plans. The test result is useful information, not a complete valuation.
What if the car has already been dismantled?
List what remains, where loose parts are and whether the wheels are fitted. Those details affect both the assessment and collection equipment.
